The Mummy's Curse (Universal, 1944)
Poster from the final Universal Kharis film. This is an altogether strange movie which forsakes the New England hills of Mapleton for the Louisiana bayous. Filled with eerie atmosphere (and a surrealistic musical number set in Tante Berthe's Cafe) The Mummy's Curse lets us witness the reanimation of Ananka's mummy in one of the weirdest scenes in the entire series.
Ilzor Zandaab (Peter Coe) awakens Kharis while Michael (William Farnum, in background) descends staircase to meet certain doom.
Kharis lets the self-proclaimed caretaker know
that his services will no longer be needed....
Kharis gets another tana fluid fix while Ilzor Zandaab
and the treacherous Ragheb (Martin Kosleck) look on.
Tante Berthe (Ann Codee) gets unexpected company. The
bedridden Princess Ananka (Virginia Christine) doesn't like
the looks of this back door man at all.
Cajun Joe (Kurt Katch) gets his.
Kay Harding narrowly misses the clutching hand
of Kharis.
The mummy carries Ananka back to Ilzor Zandaab.
Once back in her mummy case, Ananka returns
to her predestined mummy form. Her reincarnation was an
unlawful twist of fate, and the implacable gods of Egypt demanded
that she fulfill her rightful destiny....
